Branched Generative Adversarial Networks for Multi-Scale Image Manifold Learning

چکیده
We introduce BranchGAN , a novel training method that enables unconditioned generative adversarial networks (GANs) to learn image manifolds at multiple scales. What is unique about BranchGAN is that it is trained in multiple branches, progressively covering both the breadth and depth of the network, as resolutions of the training images increase to reveal finer-scale features. Specifically, each noise vector, as input to the generator network, is explicitly split into several sub-vectors, each corresponding to and trained to learn image representations at a particular scale. During training, we progressively “de-freeze” the subvectors, one at a time, as a new set of higher-resolution images is employed for training and more network layers are added. A consequence of such an explicit sub-vector designation is that we can directly manipulate and even combine latent (sub-vector) codes that are associated with specific feature scales. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our training method in multi-scale, disentangled learning of image manifolds and synthesis, without any extra labels and without compromising quality of the synthesized high-resolution images. We further demonstrate two new applications enabled by BranchGAN.

Improvement of generative adversarial networks for automatic text-to-image generation
This research is related to the use of deep learning tools and image processing technology in the automatic generation of images from text. Previous researches have used one sentence to produce images. In this research, a memory-based hierarchical model is presented that uses three different descriptions that are presented in the form of sentences to produce and improve the image. The proposed ...
متن کاملAutomatic Colorization of Grayscale Images Using Generative Adversarial Networks
Automatic colorization of gray scale images poses a unique challenge in Information Retrieval. The goal of this field is to colorize images which have lost some color channels (such as the RGB channels or the AB channels in the LAB color space) while only having the brightness channel available, which is usually the case in a vast array of old photos and portraits. Having the ability to coloriz...
متن کاملSuper-Resolution for Overhead Imagery Using DenseNets and Adversarial Learning
Recent advances in Generative Adversarial Learning allow for new modalities of image super-resolution by learning low to high resolution mappings. In this paper we present our work using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) with applications to overhead and satellite imagery. We have experimented with several state-ofthe-art architectures. We propose a GAN-based architecture using densely con...
متن کاملStacked Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks for Jointly Learning Shadow Detection and Shadow Removal
Understanding shadows from a single image spontaneously derives into two types of task in previous studies, containing shadow detection and shadow removal. In this paper, we present a multi-task perspective, which is not embraced by any existing work, to jointly learn both detection and removal in an end-to-end fashion that aims at enjoying the mutually improved benefits from each other. Our fr...
متن کاملWeakly Supervised Generative Adversarial Networks for 3D Reconstruction
Supervised 3D reconstruction has witnessed a significant progress through the use of deep neural networks. However, this increase in performance requires large scale annotations of 2D/3D data. In this paper, we explore inexpensive 2D supervision as an alternative for expensive 3D CAD annotation. Specifically, we use foreground masks as weak supervision through a raytrace pooling layer that enab...
